Auto Insurance Claims: Claim for the loss of GPS, gold bricks, household insurance

I kept my newly purchased GPS in the Car and it was stolen. Is there any way I can get it reimbursed with the Insurance Company. I have just Automobile insurance with farmers. I was told that I need to have a household insurance for this, though I was disappointed with that, Wanted to get your expert opinion on recovering my loss

Auto policies generally cover cars only,,not contents.

Homeowners or renters policies will often cover theft of items from your car though.

If auto insurance covered contents, then there would be 1 million gold bricks stolen from cars every day.
