Auto Insurance Claims: Paying for Rental Car after Total Loss, mail time, insurance comapny
QuestionI was involved in an accident, which i was not at fault. My car was deemed a total loss. I had to use a rental car, in the meanwhile I was looking for a new vehicle. After submitting my rental car bill, the at-fault insurance company tells me that once my car is deemed a total loss, that they are not responsible for any rental car fees whatsoever. I live in Texas and can not believe that I would be forced to pay for these expenses out of my own pocket. Can you please shed some light on this situation.
AnswerHi Jide,
The insurance comapny of the at-fault person owes you for a rental car from the date of the accident until the date they issue payment. Most companies will extend an additional an additional 3 to 5 days of rental after issuing the check to allow for mail time.
You may want to cal your state insurance commisioners office for clasrification and possible assistance in this matter.
I hope this helps
