Auto Insurance Claims: Auto insurance (deductible), auto body shop, insurance company
QuestionMy insurance company paid the auto body shop ($XXX.00) for repairs on my vehicle after I submitted the claim from my accident. My insurance company sent my deductible, ($YYYY.00) via direct deposit to my account. The auto body shop says the cost for me to pick up my vehicle is ($YYYY.00). How is that possible? Does the auto body shop get paid twice? Who does the deductible go to?
AnswerHi Damien,
Here's the way it works.
If your repair cost is $1500.00 and you have a $500.00 deductible, your insurance company will issue a check to either you or the body shop for $1000.00. Then when you go to pick up your car you would pay the shop the other $500.00.
If you have a conflict in the amounts in your situation, you should call your insurance company and ask them to give you a breakdown. Also ask the shop what money they received.
I hope this helps
