Is there a pay website you can go to that will tell you if there has ever been an insurance claim filed against an automobile?

Yes, there is a site that you can use to get a full history on a vehicle.  It might not show glass breakage, but it will show all major accidents, any fire damage, if it was ever stolen, if the odometer has been broken and replaced, plus if it was ever flooded or sold as salvage.
You will need the full VIN (vehicle identification number).  The cost is $24.99 for one vehicle or $29.99 for unlimited use.
