Auto Insurance Claims: Hit and run death, auto insurance company, farmers insurance

My son was recently killed in a hit and run incident, people are telling me that my son would be covered by my auto insurance, is that correct?

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

This is something that may be covered under Uninsured motorist if you have that coverage.  Different companies define uninsured/underinsured motorist differently so it's hard to say without seeing your policy.  

With Farmers Insurance, who I represent- it would be a covered loss but I can't speak for other insurers.  I would recommend that you go ahead and contact your auto insurance company and turn it in as a claim and see what happens.  This should not affect your rates or your future insurability.
