Auto Insurance Claims: reinbursment for rental, car accident, timely manner
QuestionI was in a car accident and the other person was at fault. Their insurance says that since they have declared my car a total loss, in Texas, they don't have to reimburse me for my car rental. Is this true?
AnswerI cannot speak for TX but in my state, it is partially true. From the time that the vehicle has been deemed a total loss forward, they owe no rental. Most companies will provide 2-3 days as a courtesy. From the time of the accident until they look at the car, they owe reasonable rental. Reasonable means a few days. The claim must be reported in a timely manner.
Good luck!
