Auto Insurance Claims: Cost to defend, mediation service, insurance company
QuestionI have been forced to sue for repairs due to an accident. The defendant has given everything over to his insurance company and will not speak with me or a mediation service. The damage was minor. My question is with the damage being so minor, under $900, how much does it cost, on average for an insurance company to defend against a claim? Is it not worth it for them, and even preferred to settle the claim?
AnswerHi Brian,
Although it is quite expensive for an insurance company to defend a case, sometimes they are just trying to make an example of someone and will spend several times the value of the claim to defend it. This is a very small claim though. I would just follow through with the claim and get what your entitled to. It may be that they are just trying to intimidate you into dropping the suit.
I hope this helps
