QuestionI have a 1996 Safari Trek that is built on a Chevy P30 chassis
and has a Chevy 6.2 l diesel engine. I've had poor performance
from my AC unti the past two years. The system has been
charged and seems to work when I leave the shop. A couple of
days later though it's just blowing hot air. I took it back in and
told them the system had dye in it from service over a year ago
(which also failed the same way). They checked using a black
light and a sniffer device. They found a slightly loose valve on
the compressor and tightened that but no leaks. i drove it home
and it worked great, lots of cold air flowing. Two days later the
problem is back. No cold air. This morning I started out and the
air was cool but not like the day I left the service lot. I'm not sure
what else to have checked.
AnswerHello Bary,Sounds like there still a leak or more than one leak going on.Hard to believe they can find that loss. That`s considered a big leak within two days time.Have them recheck the evaporator-they leak alot on GM systems.
The evaporator can`t be seen, you gotta really double check that area. do you live near the ocean coast line. Reason I ask is salty area will corrode evaporators.
