Auto body repair & detailing: SCRATCH REPAIR ON BOAT, fiberglass surface, scratch repair
QuestionI PURCHASED A USED BOAT THAT HAS A DARK MAROON COLORED FIBERGLASS SURFACE. IT ALL LOOKS NICE EXCEPT WHERE A 3" DIA AREA HAS MULTIPLE SCRATCHES THRU THE GEL COAT WHICH ARE NOW A LIGHTER COLOR. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO REPAIR THIS? CAN YOU JUST SAND THE
AREA AND BRING BACK THE DARK COLOR THAN BUFF IT OUT?
AnswerREX....YOU CAN BUFF THE AREA AND THAT WILL REMOVE SOME OF THE SCRATCHES THAT ARE NOT TO DEEP.
BUFFING WILL REMOVE ANY OXIDATION AND BRING UP THE COLOR.
AS FAR AS THE DEEPER SCRATCHES GO THE AREA WOULD REQUIRE SANDING AND AN APPLICATION OF GEL COAT
WHICH IS EXPENSIVE AND TAKES A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL TO APPLY.
