QuestionI have hard water spots on my 2006 jeep liberty both on the paint and the glass. I would like to know how to remove them.
thank you.
AnswerHard Water Spots. Aren't they fun!
Two answers for each paint and glass.
For the paint, you need a detailing product called a Cleaner. It's like a polishing compound with some abrasive in it. A popular line available in most any auto parts store is Meguiar's. This is a two step process in many cases because the compound that will remove the water spots may dull the paint finish. This isn't a big concern as it's only superficial. First step is to find a non - conspicuous area to work on. I would first try Meguiar's Fine Cut or Dual Action Cleaner/Polish. Use a small terry cloth rag and put a quarter size drop on it go with some pressure, use a circular motion and overlap an area at a time (door at a time, etc. Use the body trim or sections as boundaries.) Then use a soft terry towel to buff off the haze after it's dried - usually just a few seconds. Take a good look and see if you're making progress. If there's a good improvement redo the area. When you're done, follow up with a wax polish, like Meguairs Cleaner Wax. My favorite is Mint Condition Silicone Glase. It's an old Amway product that is now available on www.quixtar.com . You have to have a referral to register with the site. Mine is 57305 and JEN .
Realistically, if that doesn't remove the spots, you need a professional. Because if you go the next step up in abrasion, the dulling of the paint will be quite pronounced and to return the paint to a clear shiny finish will be almost impossible by hand. Using a buffer should be left to a professional. An exterior cut and buff should be less than $175 and will make your car exterior brand new. Get referrals for a good detailer, there are good ones and plenty that are winging it.
As far as glass, the best product I've found is Spot-X.
You can get it here:

Just follow the instructions. Works great.
Watch where you park your car - sprinklers, etc. with hard water will spot your car. Keep it waxed for best protection.
Hope that helps, and let me know how it goes.
