Auto body repair & detailing: Rust, ford windstar, 2002 ford windstar

We just purchased a used 2002 Ford Windstar.  This morning I noticed a lot of rust under front passenger seat as well as the driver seat.  I know in some beach climates things do rust much faster.  Should I be concerned?  If I have a mechanic look at it - what (tests) can he do to determine if this a minor or major problem? Hello Karen,
 We suggest taking the car to a Ford Dealership and show them the problem.  Even though you are not the first owner, there should still be a warrenty left on your vehicle.   You might also want them to check for a water leaks, around the cowl panel or windshield.
