QuestionQUESTION: Ben, I have a 2004 Expedition. Today the drivers side window went down but would not come up. I was able to get the passengers side down and up from the driver side controls but there was a hesitation going back up. I'm thinking it's the switch. If that's what you think what kind of reasonable cost should I entertain ?
Thanks !!
ANSWER: Hello John,
This Ford switch is used on the Expedition, some F150 pickups, the Crown Victoria and the Grand Marquis. The failure rate is a bit higher than average, so I would say there is a good chance that your suspicion of a bad switch is probably accurate.
If you purchase the switch from Ford it will probably be in the $70 range.
There is an aftermarket company called Dorman (part number 901-323) that also makes this switch. Many of your local Autozone, O'Reilly, Carquest, etc. stores will carry that switch for around $50.
Let me know if they is anything else I can do to help.

QUESTION: Thanks Ben, I had to take it in...couldn't drive around in this Wisconsin winter with the window open. I was told it was the motor. Had it replaced for a total of $386.00 at Tuffys. Felt ripped off, but had to have it done. New motor. Not that it matters anymore but...did I spend too much ?
AnswerHello John,
Are you sure it wasn't the cable regulator/motor assembly that was replaced? That is the only thing that would explain a $386 job. You probably would have paid about the same at the Ford dealer, so Tuffy's was no bargain.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
