Auto Glass: safety of a filled windshield star, windshield replacements, 2004 toyota prius

I got my certified used car home yesterday (2004 toyota prius) and realized once I sat in the passenger seat that there are 2 stars on that side about 4 in apart.  Toyota at first has offered to fill them.  I want the windshield replaced and am trying to get them to do that.  Is there a strength or safety differnce between a windshield with filled stars and one without?  Thank you for your information.

Hi Cathy,

I am not aware of any evidence or research that suggests a strength or safety difference between a "properly" repaired windshield and a new windshield.  In fact, you are more likely to hear that windshield replacements pose more safety hazards than repairs.    

Either way, I would ask about a warranty on the work.  Better yet, you should choose the shop and have them reimburse you.
