Automotive Plastics: repair of plastic mirror, mirror, housing

Question
the outside car door mirror of my Hyundai has a crack from being hit. How can i repair it (product to use) so it can then be repainted the same color. Only cracks ,no holes. thanks

Hi Frank, The mirror housing might be made of either ASA or ABS polymer. Do not use any glue or adhesive. Just get a 40 Watts soldeing Iron (flat tip) and weld along the cracks.Sometimes inserting a small perforated metal sheet is useful for additional reinforcement. Such metal piece is like the one you see in a microwave door screen, or in a loudspeaker grill. Just push the piece into the plastic with tip until it dissapears.try to get a smooth surface by sand grit and apply some filler ( Bondo) if necessary. Thanks.
