Tips for making oil changes easier and less messy?

Here are some tips to make oil change easier and less messy:

Gather the right tools and materials:

- New oil filter (check owner's manual for correct size)

- New oil (check owner's manual for correct type and amount)

- Oil drain pan

- Funnel

- Wrench

- Rags

- Gloves

- Safety glasses

Prepare your car:

- Park your car on a level surface.

- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.

- Engage the parking brake.

If your car is low to the ground, you may need to raise it with ramps or a jack and jack stands. (Ensure you place the jack stands on a sturdy part of the frame, not just the pinch welds. Consult the owner's manual for the proper lifting points).

Locate the oil drain plug and oil filter:

- The oil drain plug is usually located on the bottom of the oil pan.

- The oil filter is usually located near the top of the engine.

Drain the old oil:

- Place the oil drain pan under the drain plug.

- Use the wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug.

- Allow the old oil to drain completely.

- Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it securely.

Replace the oil filter:

- Use the wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter.

- Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.

- Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug.

- Do not overtighten the oil filter.

Add new oil:

- Remove the oil filler cap from the top of the engine.

- Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine.

- Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.

- Reinstall the oil filler cap.

Check the oil level:

- Use the dipstick to check the oil level.

- The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.

Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes:

- This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.

- Check for any leaks under the car.

Dispose of the old oil and filter properly:

- Take the old oil and filter to a recycling center or auto parts store.
