Car Alarms: Factory Alarm, mercury villager, alarmtek

Question
I have a 2000 Mercury villager and it has the flashing led light on dash. But when I tried to get it into program mode via what book says it doesn't flash the parking lights. I'm trying to determine whether or not it has the factory alarm because I didn't get a remote with it and would like one rather then install an after market one.
Any help on this one?

Please be more descriptive if possible.
I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.
