Car Alarms: Factory Alarm, nissan maxima, alarm systems

Question
I want to know how to activate the factory alarm.  I recently bought a keyless remote and it is programmed for the car but the anti-theft horn doesn't blow when I hit the lock button twice.  What could this be?  A bad relay or what?  By the way the car is a 1998 Nissan Maxima
