Car Alarms: 2001 Dodge Intrepid alarming for no reason, dodge intrepid, remote start

Question
This past weekend our 2001 Intrepid began to alarm for no apparent reason.  It has never happened before, and this weekend it alarmed 4 times.  We now are not locking it and leaving it in the garage until we have the opportunity to figure out what to do.
It is a factory installed alarm, but the remote start on the car may be aftermarket, if that matters.  Do you have any ideas as to what the problem is?
