Car Alarms: conlog imoberliser fob, conlog, embellisher

HI my embellisher fob has gone and when you press the little button nothing happens? i have found in the glove box a slot for the fob and know my car starts, by doing this will my alarm go off and is this a perminate fix or can i get a new fob? the car is a 1996 1.4 polo and the system is conlog we have put new batts in fob but nothing. there is a number inside the fob, is this a number you need. please help.
