Car Alarms: 2002 Pontiac Firebird, pontiac firebird, faulty sensor

Question
My security light came on the other day.  I looked in the Manuel and it does address the security light anywhere.  What does this mean and is it bad for the car if I just let it go?

Answer
It's going to start NOT recognizing the key/transponder soon if
left unattended. This means it will eventually freeze
you out from starting the engine due to a faulty
sensor.
