Car Alarms: How to turn off car alarm, ford ranger, representitive

I own a 1990 Ford Ranger with a factory-installed Karr 4040 security system.  About once a month, when I hit the unlock button on the remote, the car alarm goes off.  Sometimes hitting unlock/lock will turn the alarm off but sometimes that doesn't work.  How can I turn the alarm off when it is accidentally triggered?  11
