Car Alarms: Alarm on 99 Nissan Sentra, nissan sentra, battery cable

Hi!
The alarm on my Nissan will not stop going off. The headlights are blinking and the horn is at a constant BEEP! I can only unlock the car from the passenger side when I am outside the vehicle(that's another story/problem for another time). I tried unlocking the car last night, but the alarm went off. This has happened before, but I just relocked the car from the inside, shut the door, and unlocked with the key from the outside, and the alarm when off. This time is not so easy. I tried unlocking the trunk, but the key didn't even turn. I tried unhooking the battery cable (only the negative side b/c its loose and I couldn't unhook the positive side), which shut it off, but when I reconnected the battery, the alarm started going off again. Is there a way to reset the alarm system without locking the car? The alarm does go off after 2 minutes or so, but there are no blinking lights in the dash like there normally is, and the alarm goes off again immediately after I open the door. Please help!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!
