Car Alarms: serpi star alarm, bmw 5 series, programming issues

Hi. Ive just got a 1 button remote for my alarm on my bmw 5 series. The unit is a serpi star & looks as though it was fitted by bmw. As im the new owner of the car i thought id buy the fob, but press the button & the coding must be wrong. Is there any way i can programme the fob to work my unit?? Many thanks.
