Car Alarms: 1997 Nissan Primera, poor radio reception, resident technicians

Hi, i was wondering if you will be able to help me. We have recently installed a new car radio into a 1997 Nissan Primera and find that we now have no dash lights or back lights, also we have very poor radio reception, have we left something out? Would love it if you could help us.
