Car Alarms: Automate 476a alarm, alarmtek, passive mode

Question
I have a 98 jetta with an automate 476a alarm. I managed to put it in active mode several years ago but I just replaced my battery and the alarm is back with a vengeance. It is in passive mode so it arms itself all the time. How can I reprogram it into active mode?
