QuestionQUESTION: My alarm will only arm or disarm if the beeper is within three feet of the dashboard. The batteries in both beepers are new. The unit does its job otherwise, I just have to be very close to beep it. Unit was installed in a 1998 GMC Sonoma in 2001.
ANSWER: You'll need to reposition the car alarm's antenna.
It is either being obstructed by metal, or
you will need to stretch it out, in a virticle manner,
for the best results.
Then you should get the expected range
from you remote transmitters.

QUESTION: Follow up question: What does the antenna look like and where would it be now so that I can do as you suggest. Also, can you recommend a new alarm for my truck that I can install myself. Nothing complicated is needed, I don't have power door locks or windows. Just need a basic alarm that is reliable. I am comfortable doing the job myself and will buy it from your company if I can be convinced that a new system would be advantageous. Thanks.
AnswerThe brain box is up under the dash cavity,
probably to the left of the steering column.
Once found, there is a small black wire
not attatched to any other wire. This is
about 6 to 8 in long, and should be
moved away from any metal.
Have a look at www.caralarmstore.com
and see either the P10 system for great basic
stuff, or possibly step up to the ASTRA 777
2 way paging system for 89.95 that will
notify you of any breach. (www.PAGINGALARM.com)
Either will do a great job here.
Both are installation friendly for this
project.
Let me know if I can set up up with one.
