Car Alarms: 1996 VW Golf Avante Garde Alarm system, alarm system, vw golf

I have recently bought the above vehicle and wonder if you could help identify the alarm system. All theprevious owner could tell me was that it is CAT2. It operates form a remote fob and makes the windows go up when you set it from outside I know these details are a bit vague but I can't seem to see any other details under the bonnet.
