QuestionQUESTION: hi brian,
i own a vr3 400 head unit i crashed my car a while back and i salvaged it now i put it in my new car i went out and bought a adaptor i matched the wires correctly and the radio turns on correctly and i get signal but i can only barely hear the sound coming from the front right speaker when the radio is turned to full blast. i dont know if the crash screwed the electronics up inside the unit its self or if theres more to it then that...thank you sincerly david wilson.
ANSWER: Hi David,
It's possible that your car is equipped with a factory amplifier; I can't really say how likely this is without knowing the year and model of the vehicle. If there's a stock amp, you might need to do some extra wiring, or use some sort of adapter module to integrate the new head unit with the factory amplifier. If I had to guess, though, I'd say the head unit is probably defective.
If you have a spare speaker lying around (even a home speaker) then you can try connecting it directly to the head unit's speaker outputs to see if they're working.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION: so my car is a 94 geo prizm.. 264k on it.(that isnt a typo it was a daily driver since it was bought until now.haha)it came with a 6 disc changer witch i removed all the hardware for. all the speakers poped before i installed the harness and there was also a ham radio in it for a while. is the headunit fixable? or should i toss it? thanks you have been helpful.
AnswerHi David,
I'm pretty certain you won't find a factory amplifier in a 94 Prizm, so it definitely sounds like the head unit's amplifier is defective. It's possible that the RCA pre-outs are still working normally, so you might be able to use an external amplifier with the head unit with good results. Otherwise, though, I doubt that I'd bother trying to have the head unit repaired.
Hope this helps!
