Car Stereos: Chrysler Sebring rear speaker connections, chrysler sebring, infinity sound
Question
Speaker View
I recently bought a used 2003 Sebring LXi Coupe with the Infinity sound system. The rear speakers do not emit any sound so I had a look at the bottom of the speakers from the trunk and to my surprise, there appear to be no wires connected to either of them! I installed a couple of car stereos in my younger days, so I believe I know what to look for. What am I missing? Is there something unique about the connections to these speakers? I have attached a digital photo for reference.
Answer
Hi Charlie,
There haven't been any amazing technological breakthroughs with speakers, at least in terms of wiring and connections; each of your speakers should have a positive and negative wire connection. However, I can't really tell from your picture whether there's an empty plug on the bottom. If you can see a 2-pin jack with nothing attached, then I'd look around and see if you can find the plugs that are supposed to fit them. It's possible someone cut the wires to extend them to a subwoofer, or something silly like that. However, it's also possible that the wire connection is at the top of the speaker, above the rear deck. That's uncommon, but not unknown; and if the speaker basket is molded plastic (as it appears in the picture) then it wouldn't be too hard to design it so that the wiring terminal is at the top.
So, if you can't find a plug, then the next step is to remove the rear deck cover and look for a connection on top.
Hope this helps!
Brian
