Car Stereos: Bose 2005 car stero system, car stero system, cd exchanger

I have a 6 CD exchanger.  It has worked fine til yesterday.  Now when I insert a CD the system tells me to check Disk.  When I turned the Nissan off I heard a lot of rattleing inside as if it was loading.  It was empty.  I tried another disk with the same problem.  The manuel for the car doesn't mention CHECK DISK.

First thing to do is to get a disc lens cleaner.  Try putting that in and running it through the changer.  See if it helps.

If it continues to do that, you're probably looking at a dead changer; cd changers are incredibly finicky.

PS: If the dealer is suggesting replacement, you might want to look into aftermarket stuff, since you might find a new deck with a new aftermarket changer is cheaper than replacing the factory changer, and would sound better.

It's unfortunate, but dealer prices are generally not in touch with reality -- especially the import companies.
