BMW Repair: Electrical Issues with my 2000 528I, alternator belt, electrical issues
QuestionRecently I was driving on the interstate and my EML/Brake/ABS lights came on. Then there was a shuttering and it appeared that the instrument panel shut down. I was at the 147 mile mark of my 320 trip, after I pulled over shut down the car there wasn't any more problems. The next day I drove approximately 90 miles round trip, when I went to get back on the road about 5 hours later, I had no power in the car. I jumped it and it was running fine. My battery is brand new(less than 4 months). What could be the problem with my car?
AnswerI would take it to an autozone or parts store and have them check the alternator. I had almost the same issue last week with my 94 525I, however, when I went to look at my alternator, I noticed the belt was almost all gone. There was only about a quarter of an inch left on it. The alternator tested fine, but the range was up and down, so I bought a new belt and everything was fine. Might check your alternator belt as well. Hope this helps.
