BMW Repair: convertible top, microswitches, microswitch

1998 m3 covertible  sometime the top goes down and other times doesnt ive changed the top switch new and same problem when the led switch lights up it works and when it doesnt light up it doesnt could it be a relay or is the top motor the fault  any help would be great

Mark it is more likely a faulty microswitch or the convertible top straps worn out. This system is extremely complicated and I can't diagnose over the internet. You need to be able to see all the statuses of the microswitches and motors on the diagnosis machine to interperet what the Convertible ToP module is seeing. I would take it in and insist that the Shopforeman or a Veteran Convertible top experienced technician.
