QuestionQUESTION: I have been having an issue with my 2001 Jimmy not starting after a cold night. When I attempt to start it, it will not turn over. I attempted to jump it and have the same situation. Strangely enough if I disconnect a battery terminal and reconnect it and then try to jump it, it starts and will run just fine.
The battery is brand new as of 12/16/09 at 6pm, and just this morning at approximately 7:15am it would not start again. It was 1F this morning with a windchill it was -11. I had an intermittant issue with the neutral position sensor freezing up during extremem cold weather.
I was thinking on replacing the starter but thought I would look around for a solution on here.
ANSWER: did you ever replace the neutral safety switch? if not that could still be a prime suspect, that or a bad ignition switch

QUESTION: No I never did replace the neutral switch... I did forget to mention that this is an automatic and I was not aware of the location of said switch in this vehicle. As I recall the only time there were issues with the switch was when it was very cold outside like last night. Would disconnecting the battery reset that switch so when I attempted to jump start it, it would work?
The situation has changed a bit in that I am not able to jump start it like I have been after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. I have attempted it numerous times and still only get power to all lights and everything interior but I am not able to start the truck any more.
Any further thoughts are appreciated and thanks for your quick response.

Answerthe other thing i can think of that might be of issue is the starter itself, as you state you have all light but no crank from the starter itself, if you could have a helper hold the key to the start position as you tap the starter with a piece of wood lightly, the starter may start to crank, if it does the starter is failing
