GMC Repair: fuel pump-GMC, gm goodwrench, ac delco
QuestionMorning Jim,
This is a 97 GMC 1500 2WD 350. Has 195000 miles.
Truck has gotten hard to start (turns a long time). I can hear the fuel pump after it sits several hours. I have had to scoot some starting into the air intake a few times then it catches & runs. I thought elec. fuel pumps either worked or not. Can it slowly go bad? I did tune the ignition too, cap rotor & plugs. I changed the pump some 30-40 miles ago and expect it wasn't AC Delco. Won't make the same mistake again if you think that's what it is.
Thanks much
Jerry
AnswerIt is possible that it is a fuel pump. The GM pumps can start to bind and will slowly go out. Also they can cut out while driving causing an engine stall. I would advise you to check your fuel pressure, it needs to be between 60-66psi. to run rhe truck. Also I would advise bringing it to your local dealer if it is a fuel pump simply because GM Goodwrench provides a lifetime parts and labor warranty on dealer installed pumps.
