GMC Repair: starting problems, brown wires, dash lights

a gm, jimmy '97 2wd  has an intermittent starting problem. situation is ,with the ignition on, all the lights on the dash lights up.engine starts fine all lights goes off.other times, with the ingnitions on(no lights on dash) I would have to wait for a few,or flip the ignition off and back on again  and then of course the vehicle would start. Please,please I need help. what do you think the problem is. thanks a million, Amon

It appears to me that you have an ignition switch problem. What you should try first is to check for voltage at the switch. Check for power going in on the large red and orange wires and power going out on the large yellow, white, pink and brown wires. More than likely you will have power coming into the switch, but not out.
