how are the trunk springs installed on a 1969 alfa spider?

The most difficult jobs I ever did in a dealership were  the top on a FIAT spyder and any trunk springs.

If there is an easy way to do it--I do not know it.  Two prybars help. And, be careful--do not rush it.

For torsion bar styles:  stick the end in the hole then install the plate with the help of prybar and a helper.
