QuestionHi,
I own an Alfa Romeo 75 2.0 Twin Spark. I believe that the 2.0 version of this model was not sold in the USA accept for the 2.5 and the 3.0 V6 versions. But I believe that although the engine may be different but the body and suspension parts may still be the same.
There is a very bad leak in my power steering rack leak. I have been told that the repair kit wouldn't do much good and if I replace the whole rack it may probably last for about a year or a year and a half only. The rack is very costly too.
I fix most of the problems on my car by myself.
Please advice me how I could fix this problem.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you.

AnswerHI,
I've rebuilt a few of these and I'll say that half of them were successful. If the seal surfaces are not badly worn or scored, a rebuild is a good option.
Yes, a replacement is expensive but I don't understand why someone would tell you it would only last for a couple years. Unless it's a rebuilt one, it should last for longer than that.
It is hard for me to advise you on this. I have a 75 and after a failed attempt to rebuild the rack, I replaced it with a manual steering rack from a GTV6. I don't recommend this if you like the power steering. The wheel gets very heavy.
If I had to make a recommendation and you are mechanically inclined, I'd say try a rebuild first. If you keep things clean and the parts are not too worn, you should be successful.
Good luck,
