QuestionQUESTION: Hello,
my question is this, I want to buy the MTX road thunder box with 2 12" subs all preloaded and wired to 4 ohms. it is rated at 400 Watt RMS all together.. I was just wondering that If I was to get an amp would I want to get a 2 channel amp running 200x2@4 ohms? or 200x2@2 ohms? just a little curios, and I don't want to purchase the wrong amp.
thanks,
Chris
ANSWER: I would love to assist.
Please send me the exact MTX RT box model number you are looking at and I can tell you the answer. They make a few different RT models and I need to know which one it is so that I can give you a professionally correct answer.
From what you have typed, chances are high that you will need a one channel, MONO amplifier which provides 400 watts RMS.
I would run a pair of 12's in mono if possible and MTX probably does that too but you would need to check the models' specifics to be certain.
No problem being curious! Do look into this matter fully before you purchase an amp.
Let me know which model asap.

AnswerIt certainly looks like you need a single channel (Mono), 400 watt RMS amplifier.
You might find a two channel amp which is bridgeable to mono.
I would suggest one rated at about 200 watts RMS x 2 at 2Ohms in stereo and 400 x 1 at 4Ohms in mono.
I do not really care for R/F on the whole, but here is an example of such an amp which (setup properly) should be perfect:
