QuestionHello.
I am trying to create a cable that goes from 1/8 inch stereo plug to bare wires that I could connect to the back of an amplifier that only has right and left inputs via screws. I think you know what I am talking about. there are no plugs, just screws which you are supposed to attach wires to.
When I disassembled a standard stereo Y cable (1/8 inch to RCA) I found a red wire in one cable and a black wire in one. These were both surrounded by sheilding.
I found that simply connecting the red and black wire to the screw terminals did not work. I experimented with different combinations of hot wire and shield wire.
What are the exact connections I need to make for this to work.
Ideally I want to create a cable that has the 1/8 inch plug, and then simple electric u shaped connectors that I can attach to the screw terminals.
Thanks for your help
Greg
AnswerFor a stereo line level input, any amplifier will require at least 3 terminals: right, left and ground. The shielding would go to the ground and the red & black to the L & R terminals.
I have never seen an amplifier input with only single screws for inputs. What model of amplifier is this? For it to work, there has to be some sort of termination for the ground wires.
