Audio Systems: sony explode cd playercdxm600, sony cd player, rf amplifier
QuestionI installed my sons sony cd player in my 2001 ford ranger...the cd player works perfect but the radio only has very little volume,,even with the antena unplugged there is almost no static noise..I double checked the ground no luck in getting any volume any suggestions? thanks
AnswerWith the antenna unplugged it should be very quiet. Better test is to take a 6 to 8 foot length of insulated wire; strip off 1/2 inch and insert the bare copper into the center hole of the antenna jack on the radio and use this for a dummy antenna. Bring the wire up high enough that it will get a strong signal through the window. If you are anywhere near a local station it should bring in a pretty strong signal - either AM or FM - and it will tell you if the radio and its front end rf amplifier is working well.
If the radio works pretty good with the dummy antenna wire then the problem is with the antenna installation, grounding or the cable.
If the radio does not give a decent signal with the dummy antenna then you have a defective radio section or broken input connector or something like that.
Let me know how it goes.... If you need more discussion, just let me know.
