Audio Systems: Turntable problems, technics turntable, ion turntable
QuestionHi Robert,
I've got a separates system and have recently bought an ION turntable to convert my vinyl to mp3 format. Other parts are a tuner, CD/Minidisc player and double tape deck.
Whenever I plug the turntable leads into the phono jacks in the amp I get a humming noise. All the other components are fine with no humming. I've tried plugging things in one at a time but still get to the same problem when it comes to plugging the turntable in.
The amp is a Sherwood AX 5090R if it helps.
Thanks,
Phil.
AnswerWelcome to the club. I have same unit with the same problem. I sort of new it was to good to be true that a turntable worth it's weight (no pun intended), should cost at least $500. I wrote to ION and received a response from one of their engineers who basically said that I needed to do some Voodoo with my computer, to make it work. I transferred at least a dozen or more records all of which after further listening annoyed me enough to go back and use my Technics turntable and transfer them again. When Technics make a USB turntable then you can be sure that the internal electronics won't cost $1.50 made in Taiwan. If you can return it, that's my recommendation.
