IS there much of a difference if i connect a 12ft digital coaxial cable from my hdtv that is 4 feet away from my reciever, that if i used a 6 foot digital coaxial cable....?

Answer
Depends on what/where you are connecting to AND the specific product make and model.  Why? Because each product has different output impedance and I/O characteristics.

But, generally speaking, assuming your I/0 characteristics are average or typical products the difference is tolerable and not noticeable unless you are a videophile with golden eyes and ears.
