QuestionI recently installed a new head unit and subs in to my car and it all worked fine, for awhile. It worked for about 2 hours, then all of a sudden stopped working. The head unit turns on and all the fuses are ok, but still no power. I thought maybe somehow i blew up the amp, so I put in another amp and still no go. Then I got thinking maybe the trigger/remote on the head unit may not be working, so i put in another head unit and got the same result. Only this time I noticed that the amp is turning on for a split second then turning off again.
Does anyone know what would be the problem? I know it cant be the cable or else nothing would be happening, and all the fuses are fine and power is getting through. Can anyone help???
AnswerWell, you really need a voltmeter or vom so you can tell for sure if the amp has power getting to it. You can buy such a good little auto vom at home depot or walmart for under $10.
And, in your case, I suspect the amp is overloading and shutting down because of protection activation inside the amp. This is caused by bad wiring or a shorted speaker voice coil. So, check the wiring and the speakers. A good check for this is to disconnect the speakers from the back of the amp, then connect only one at a time until it clicks off.
Hope this helps you find the solution.
