QuestionHi:
Is there such a thing as a Sound-Emitting Diode [SED]? I googled "sound-emitting diode". Nothing factual came up. Just a bunch of jokes.

An SED is supposed to give out sound in a similar manner to which a LED gives out light.
Thanks,

AnswerNot that I know of. Doesn't mean that something is in the works. Any thing that has magneto restrictive properties or electro-mechanical properties can become a transducer.
But, so far as a diode by itself that is intended to be a transducer, I am not aware of such.
HOWEVER: That being said, a diode mounted on a metal heat plate and conducting large amounts of current will cause the heat plate to vibrate according to the current passing through the diode. It makes a sound, but is not really a sound generator in the logical sense.
Hope this is not confusing.
