Audio Systems: 1996 Pontiac Firebird, pontiac firebird, ribbon cable

I have a 1996 Pontiac Firebird with radio volume control on the steering wheel. When I'm driving and I turn the wheel the volume turns all the way down. I don't even know where to start to fix it. Help me please!

remove the steering wheel inside there is a couple of contacts  
with a circle  to make the connection  
this disc is dirty or one of the contact legs it is bend
we always replace this but now that part is not available anymore
you have to bend the terminal back or just clean all the contacts  also make sure the ribbon cable is not broken
