QuestionI have delco original radio in a 1970 Opel GT that was bench tested as good. However when installed in the car with a new speaker and new one piece mast antenna. With the engine not running, I get a good signal from local stations but the sound quality has a buzz at any volume and on all stations.
I have a new good coax that came with the antenna from the antenna to the radio, good ground from the radio to the car chassis, good ground from the coax to the radio chassis, no continuity from the mast to theca chassis or the coax ground sheath. When I move my hand near the antenna mast the buzz increases until I touch the mast at which time the signal(reception) goes almost silent. I have not see this effect on any of my other car radios. The radio did not have this buzz effect on a bench test with the same speaker. The speaker wires are new and I detect no shorts in any of the wires.
Any idea what is wrong? I am not looking for excellent reception from this old radio but I would like to eliminate the buzz.
Answercheck the voltage at the radio it needs to be 12volt or more
also at the end of the antenna location it needs to be ground to the chassis.
the ground of the antenna needs to be the same ground that is on the radio, i am not telling you to run a new ground to the antenna just to get a volt meter and meter the ohms from the radio ground to where the antenna is mount,
and the the antenna needs to be unplug
it needs to be under 50 ohms if more
you need to open the hood look for the battery and get a good heavy wire from negative terminal to chassis
hope this solves your problems
