i have a 97 chevy tahoe the wires from the stock radio to the stock amp have been snaped and iam wondering what these wires are called so i can get new ones?

When you say they are snapped, do you mean the plugs are missing? It should be called "audio harness" or "entertainment  
databus" or something similar, if you are trying to order it from GM parts. You are probably better off to check out some auto wrecking yards.
