Audio Systems: pickup radio,with cass., toyota sr5 pickup, aa battery

'94 toyota SR5  pickup. looking at the dial, the radio is on, you can see it changing channels but there is NO sound. what could be the problem? and if I need to remove the unit; how would I do that?

Probably time to replace the old head unit, it is 12 years old. Make sure to test the speaker wires with a AA battery before doing much, as I have had vehicles with every speaker blown out. that is rare though. Just touch the leads to the battery terminals and they will crackle if they are working. Us ethe AA, as it's only 1.5vdc.
