Audio Systems: Sony CDX GT200 car stereo problem, sony cdx gt200, jeep grand cherokee

I purchased a Sony CDX GT200 car stereo for my sons 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  After following the instructions for installation (incl. purchasing wiring conversion harness), the AM, FM and front auxilliary input work fine (sound, full functions, everything).  However, CD player will not produce any sound at all.  The CD spins, skip, advance, reverese, eject and all sound controls work fine, just no sound.  I spent 2 hours on the phone with Sony tech support and their recommendation was to check the wiring feeding to the power antenna and as that was not the problem (the power antenna works fine), they suggested I take the car to an car audio installation place and pay them to fix....nice!  I put a meter on the inputs and outputs from the stereo and I have 100 mA on the input (power side) and 50 mA going out to each of the outputs (speakers, antenna, Amplifier power-which I am not using).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am suprised they spent even 2 hours of support on a $130.00 deck.

The unit is probably be bad.
The easiest way to be sure is to test it out of the vehicle with a known working speaker on each of the decks' output channels. Try it with a new CD or two and if it doe not work, return it for another and try not to throw it at them :)
