Audio Systems: Car radio reception, car stereo repair, radio cassette player

Question
I have a golf (1998 mark 3 GL, R reg)with a VW original sony radio cassette player and although I have excellent reception on FM cannot get AM at all. I also have the original electric aerial.

I am a novice and wouldn't know how to uninstal either the radio or the aerial.

If the stereo is receiving FM ok the antenna is working. It's possible that the AM receiver module in the stereo is defective or it could have a faulty solder connection. You may want to have a car stereo repair shop take a look at the stereo.
